Here are the syllabi of our language courses.
Admission to the first year is for those who have no knowledge of the chosen language.
The course will essentially be practical. The student will be encouraged to converse from the very first lessons for a relaxed approach to the new language. However, to allow this first knowledge of the language and improve it, there will also be lessons on grammar, syntax and morphology, with the aid of textbooks, magazines, audiovisuals and multimedia tools. In the classroom there will also be exercises on dictation, reading, translation and composition. At the end of this course, the student will be able to have a conversation, write short compositions and read correctly. Examinations will be held at the end of the year for admission to the next courses. A certificate of study will be issued on request.
Both those who come from the 1st year and those who have already acquired basic linguistic knowledge at other schools (but only after a test-interview which will be held before the start of the course) will be admitted to the 2nd year (intermediate course). Particular attention will be paid to conversation which must be fluent. Study in the classroom will be integrated with exercises of dictation, composition and translation. The use of multimedia tools will be at the discretion of the teacher . Lastly, great attention will be paid to phonetics . Examinations will be held at the end of the year for admission to the next courses. A certificate of study will be issued on request.
This year of study comes between the previous ones, mainly aimed at grammatical and lexical knowledge of the language, and the following ones of specialization and preparation for the profession of interpreter and translator. At the end of this year, the students, who have overcome the basic linguistic obstacles, will have to put their language skills to the test and be able to approach and discuss various topics of current affairs, set forth facts and events, describe places or areas of particular historical, geographical, landscape and cultural interest. The diploma of LINGUISTIC MEDIATION will be awarded following the end of year examination.
The course intends to give full professional preparation for interpreters. In addition to fluent conversation, particular attention will be given to the written part, stylistics and the commercial part. The programme is completed by exercises of dictation, phonetics, composition and summaries in the foreign language of articles on current affairs from newspapers. It will be the teacher, also taking into consideration the students' interests, to choose between articles on current affairs, news, economic topics etc.. Simultaneous translating will also be used in class. Students will have to sit the examinations at the end of the academic year in June for the diploma of INTERPRETER.
The course intends to give students a professional training. Particular attention will be paid to written translation into and from the foreign language, which must be faithful to the original text in its meaning without overlooking correct grammar and stylistics. Weekly exercises in consecutive translation and chuchotage will keep the students trained and give them practice for their profession as interpreters. Technical terminology and the commercial and business part will be given prominent attention. At the end of the academic year in June, the students will have to sit the examinations for the diploma of INTERPRETER-TRANSLATOR.
An advanced course on topics of management, marketing and foreign trade at executive level. At the end of the course, the participants will have a command of the language that allows them to personally conduct negotiations in the chosen language.
N.B. : From the 3rd year onwards, the students can try to use, at the discretion of the teacher, the simultaneous translating system.
This advanced course is for those who have an excellent command of the language and, as interpreters and translators, wish to approach the profession of simultaneous translating. The course, held by a teacher specialized in simultaneous translating is based exclusively on practical exercises to learn this technique. For the purposes of learning, taking the course individually is recommended.
